This week we are filming final fight scenes for the upcoming 2012 StarBuck full-length feature documentary movie.  Below are some snapshots of the first filming day, as we shot at Suomenlinna (a small island off the coast of Helsinki, an old fortress and castle grounds).  The weather was absolutely horrible, cold as tarnation and rainy, in addition to considerable winds.

The fight scenes are between FCF wrestler Jessica Love and myself.  Director Oskari Pastila specifically wanted wanted Jessica as my rival in the fight scenes outside of the wrestling ring, as Jessica represents the complete counterpart to what StarBuck represents.  Jessica Love, for those of you who don’t know, is a tranny wrestler, who actually just officially changed his gender to a her.  Me on the other hand, I am a good ol’ redneck son of a gun, a throwback to traditional and staunch male and female roles in society.  I know, for some that sounds dated, but I could really care less.  However, the clash of Jessica’s and my personalities and what we represent makes for good movie material, and that is why we are fighting in the film.

There will be more news on the StarBuck movie to follow in the coming months, so stay tuned to my website here!

Fool Like You music video

Posted: February 26, 2011 in Music

Here it finally is, folks – my band Overnight Sensation’s first music video for our single, Fool Like You.

Enjoy!

Last night my band Overnight Sensation played a red-hot show at Ravintola Pelikenttä in Hyvinkää, alongside local bands Steel Liver Society and Caralho Voador, the latter of which is a Faith No More tribute act.

The locals didn’t know us from Joe, so we definitely had to win them over, and so we did as we stepped on stage at 11pm following Voador’s act.  This was a no-frills bar with no window-dressing, but once Overnight began to kick out the jams, no one was left cold. And I’m not exaggerating here.

Even Huey Lewis wore his sunglasses at night!

Our set was the following:

Jumping Jack Flash (Rolling Stones)

Wet and Wild

Cult Creation

Born to be Wild (Steppenwolf)

Jezebel´s Addiction

Fool Like You

Soul Gone Missin´

Rock and Roll All Night (KISS)

Gotta Get Some Action (Hellacopters)

Cat Scratch Fever (Ted Nugent)

Ace of Spades (Motörhead)
All in all a very good, energetic outing for us, with people dancing and singing away to the covers.

Next up for us, more studios!

Bleeding charisma for smalltown, Finland

I have been in the studio this past week, doing lyric and English coaching with Random Eyes singer Christian Palin, as his band prepares to release their third LP this coming spring.

I have known Christian for about 10 years, and I was even the best man at his wedding back in the day. I honestly hold him to be one of the best melodic metal vocalists in Finland today, although he is only half-Finnish, his Mom being from Uruguay in South America.

Christian was a big favorite to win Finland’s X Factor reality TV competition series last year, but he lost interest in the format and dropped out of the finalist group after making a lot of headway and raising considerable attention.

By Tuesday this coming week, we have to have all of the material in the can, as Wednesday I am leaving for Japan to wrestle once again for SMASH on January 29+30 in Tokyo and Osaka.

Hit music only

I was at Johtoääni Studios again this week recording vocals for the upcoming Overnight Sensation album, which encountered a change of plans from EP to LP.

Sounds good!

Yesterday, I nailed off a catchy as hell number entitled Jezebel’s Addiction (with a chorus to die for), and today I laid the smack down on a tune entitled Fool Like You.  We have actually recorded Fool Like You previously as a raw demo on our MySpace webpage, but we wanted to polish that song off, as it’s one of the best cuts we have.  Jezebel on the other hand reminds me vaguely of some of the better material from Buckcherry.

I believe we’ll be looking at 10 songs for the LP, with one cover and nine originals.   Stay tuned for developments!

Gotta be happy with the flow of things when you're "on"

Studio sessions with Overnight Sensation

Posted: December 30, 2010 in Music

Yesterday and today I was recording vocals for the upcoming Overnight Sensation EP, with four songs on the menu in total upcoming.

Today, I quickly nailed off a rather pop-minded tune entitled Cult Creation, and yesterday I laid down a song called Soul Gone Missin’ at Johtoääni Studios in Helsinki.  I ended up really struggling with Cult Creation, which is perhaps the most melodic track of the bunch overall, with nearly five hours of mic time today.  In comparison, I nailed Soul Gone Missin’ in about 45-minutes flat, warm-ups included.  Funny how some things just require more ante than others of the same ilk.

So what exactly does Overnight Sensation play?  We’re basically talking 80’s hard rock with an edgy attitude, like a bit of DAD, a bit of Hellacopters, a bit of Motörhead and a dash of Thin Lizzy.  That’s my take anyway.

First week of the new year I should be laying down the other two new tracks, Jezebel’s Addiction and Fool Like You.  We actually recorded Fool Like You this past year and took place in Radio Rock’s band contest in Finland, but we felt that the song needed to be fine-tuned, thus we are redoing it.

Stay tuned for more happenings and developments in the weeks to come.  Plus, come out and see us live at Hyvinkää’s Restaurant Pelikenttä with Steel Liver Society and The Sledge Messiah on February 5, 2011.
