Stupid, stupid young man

As often holds true in life, none of us can move ahead if we are not willing to take some risks. A calculated risk, however, is entirely different than a hasty risk. And when taking risks, one must always weigh out carefully in advance the potential rewards and payoffs of said course of action.
I have to believe that 23-year old Ricky Vendetta took an uncharted, imprudent risk last Saturday night at FCF Wrestling’s DOMination 7 event in Helsinki. Ricky Vendetta chose to interject himself in the post-match happenings, following my bout with transvestite wrestler Jessica Love, who managed to score his/her first career victory over me.
Following the match, veteran grappler Stark Adder attacked Jessica Love, goading me to join the fray. Adder has had an outstanding issue with Jessica since he returned to action after a year’s absence in late-August this year, losing to the gender bender in the first round of the FCF Championship title tournament held at that time. Adder’s return wasn’t the triumphant one he was hoping for, and his frustration turned to spite in short order, bleeding through even to this day.
After I refused to take part in the post-match beatdown of Jessica Love, Adder’s new protege, Ricky Vendetta, showed up. Throwing caution to the wind, Vendetta cracked me in the back of my head from the blindside, and then proceeded to lace into me after I had my bell rung. Adder just stood there and watched, like a stick in the mud, and didn’t even bother trying to mediate the situation.
Now I have to say, that I have been friends with Stark Adder for years. Through thick and thin, we have battled at times and we have stood together at times, but there has always been a warrior’s bond between us, a mutual respect. I have vouched for Adder on countless occasions, even getting him booked outside of Finland in the past on several occasions. So that said, I am very surprised that at a key moment, such as happened last Saturday night, Adder would not have chosen to set straight his new charge. Instead, he left the omelette to burn on the frying pan.
Ricky Vendetta knew what he was getting into when he opened this latest can of worms. He knew that he was jumping on the oldest dog in the yard, the Alpha Male of the pack. He attacked the locker room leader, and he forgot that ambition and recklessness are two different things altogether.
And for this indiscretion, Ricky Vendetta will end up paying a hellacious price. Ricky Vendetta will learn the hardest way of all, that insolence carries a price tag way beyond his fiscal/physical viability.
As Hall of Fame wrestler Arn Anderson of the Four Horsemen once quoted, ”Don’t write cheques with your mouth that your body can’t cash!”
With that thought in mind, payday come for Ricky Vendetta on January 4 in Lohja, Finland.
Oh, and Adder: Tell Ricky that THIS is going to hurt. After all, you would know.

Photographer Mikko Löppönen of HMC Indie was onhand at FCF Wrestling’s DOMination 7 event this past weekend on Saturday, December 15 in Helsinki to shoot the matches. Here are some of his prize captures from my match against transvestite wrestler Jessica Love, who finally managed to score a pinfall victory over me in 15:46 after a suicide swanton dive off the top rope. This was undoubtedly one of the biggest victories in Jessica Love’s career, and thankfully for those who were not onhand (and shame on you if you missed this show), the advent of still photography warrants you to relive some of the action!

Last night, October 6th in Nurmes, Finland, I faced the brand new FCF Wrestling Champion, King Kong Karhula, in his first title defense to date.
Karhula won the strap on August 25th in Helsinki, defeating 4-time former FCF Champion, Valentine, in the finals of a two-day title tournament. After seven years in the wrestling game, Karhula finally won the big one, cementing his legacy among the elite in the European professional wrestling field.
Last night, Karhula brought the most vicious A-game that he had within him, knowing that I was in the hunt for my 5th FCF Championship to date also. The last time I held the coveted title was in 2010, when I both won and lost the belt to and from “The Japanese Buzzsaw” TAJIRI in Tokyo, on both occasions.
I had been struck with a debilitating influenza virus infection for over six weeks, and going into this match, I still was not at 100% physically. That is no excuse as to how things played out in the end, but it stands to take into consideration when looking back on this match. I had not been able to perform cardiovascular workouts during my sick spell, and this detail taxed me severely in last night’s encounter.
Karhula and I fought tooth and nail – from technical, mat-based wrestling to full-out brawling with both fists blazing – throughout the contest, going 23:26 total match time … and I must say, this was one of my toughest matches in Finland over the past nine years that pro wrestling has been domestically promoted here.
Karhula survived my superkick – a feat which very few have EVER accomplished, anywhere I have wrestled in the world – and came back with a series of World’s Strongest Slams to finally finish me off for the coup de grâce.
I really must say that all things considered, under the circumstances, I gave it my best shot and did my all, but the better man won last night. Still, I say “the better man” only concerning “last night”. If Karhula is willing to take me on when I am at 100%, without any sicknesses or physical limitations, I challenge him to another match for his title.
Still, the fact remains: King Kong Karhula is a force to be reckoned with on the European pro wrestling circuit. Very few wrestlers have gotten the one-up on Yours Truly in Europe over the past few years, and to claim a win over StarBuck definitely carries weight and makes a statement in our business.
King Kong Karhula goes from here to DOMination 6 in Helsinki on October 27th for his next title defense, whereas I head to Japan for the Wrestling New Classic title tournament on October 26 in Tokyo, facing my former teammate, Hajime Ohara, in the first round.

I will be leaving this coming Monday, July 30th for a wrestling tour with WNC (Wrestling New Classic) throughout Japan at the beginning of August.
On August 2nd at Shinjuku FACE Arena in Tokyo, I will team with AKIRA and Syuri will face TAJIRI, Hajime Ohara and Kana in the Wrestling New Classic main event. From there I move on with my new team to establish wrestling dominance in Osaka on August 3rd, Hiroshima on August 4th, Hakata on August 6th and Kagoshima on August 7th.
This past week, I wrestled in Rome, Italy at Rainbow Magicland, which is a huge theme park outside the city. Every day about 10 000 people visit Magicland, and on July 24 IWS Wrestling ran a show at the establishment. I wrestled against huge black wrestler Tiny Iron, who has been a bodyguard for bands like The Black-Eyed Peas, Beyoncé and 50 Cent. I was disqualified in the match when Michael Kovac of Austria and Leo Cristiani of Spain interfered on my behalf.
This week on Saturday, July 28 I wrestle against Finnish academic standout and brash rookie Mikko Maestro in Kerava, Finland for FCF Wrestling at SummerSmash 3.

War of attrition pt.2

One year ago on July 1, 2011 in Helsinki, I faced Sweden’s top wrestler Killer Karlsson at an FCF Wrestling event entitled DOMination 2. It was a long-awaited showdown, as Finland and Sweden have had a blood-rivalry going back many decades. As the pioneer of Finnish pro wrestling, I was not only representing myself, I was representing the country that my parents were born in, as I clashed with Karlsson in our first meeting. To say that our duel was highly-spirited would be a grandiose understatement, as the fans packed into Helsinki’s DOM club venue roared with every blow that I dealt out to the big Swede.
During our match at DOMination 2, Karlsson got himself intentionally disqualified and proceeded to beat me senseless with his metal Swedish flagpole. It sounds almost as if he was defacing his own country by using his own flag to perpetrate his actions. Karlsson left me laying in the ring, gasping for breath, as I got choked out on top of it all before the dust settled.
Now, upcoming at DOMination 4 on June 28 in Helsinki, I get my chance at retribution in a No-Holds-Barred match against Killer Karlsson. Anything goes on June 28th, and that means I can pound a mudhole into Karlsson with his own flagpole, should be bring one, and there is nothing the official can do about it. As a matter of fact, I can use any furniture that isn’t nailed down to beat Karlsson black and blue. Hell, I can even use whatever IS nailed down!
See clips above of my first match against Karlsson on my latest DVD release, available at DOMination 4 on June 28 in Helsinki
Make sure to get tickets to this huge event now through www.fightclubfinland.fi/kauppa.php and save a couple of Euros in the process.
This weekend, I will be in Stockholm, Sweden, training the STHLM Wrestling roster over a two-day seminar tomorrow and Sunday. I will also be wrestling in a special VIP-members only invite-event on Saturday night against STHLM Wrestling’s Scandinavian Shiva.
I am also proud to mention that FCF Wrestling broke the mainstream media barrier in Finland today, with a huge, feature cover story on our promotion in the nation’s leading newspaper Helsingin Sanomat in the weekend NYT-Liite attachment. Check out the scan below, and be sure to pick it up if you live in Finland!

Not quite lucky number five…

This past Friday night at FCF Wrestling’s Jatkosota 2012 event in Helsinki I challenged “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä for his FCF Championship title. Had I procured the finishing pinfall, which by all accounts SHOULD have gone down following my spike piledriver to Ukonselkä, I would now be a five-time FCF Champion. The fact that I am not the new champ right now boils down to FCF General Manager Robert Holmström, my Eurosport co-commentator, who really should have known better than messing with my match, and to Robert’s “surprise”, King Kong Karhula.
Heimo and I fought a rough-and-tumble, knock-down, drag-out bout, which really deserved a clear-cut winner. Alas, Robert Holmström, with his Machiavellian imagination, spoiled the fun for everybody. Right after my well-timed piledriver, the lights of the Old Student House venue went out and everyone was left in the dark. Then, out of the corner of the room, from a side entrance, out comes the former Ibo Ten, who is now apparently calling himself King Kong Karhula, if the page that he opened on Facebook yesterday is any indication. Karhula proceeded to destroy both Heimo and I, leaving us with bruised ribs after it was all said and done.
I have to hand it to Ukonselkä though. He is often viewed as a very one-dimensional wrestler, being the burly brawler type. My plan of attack was to actually wrestle the man down to the mat and control him there, but Heimo showed surprising counter-wrestling aptitude and managed to stem the tide. It ended up being pretty much back and forth all the way through, with neither of us getting a clear upper hand throughout the match.
With the non-finish and sabotage of our title match, Robert Holmström upheld the FCF Championship, aided in part by the fact that he provoked Heimo into blasting him with a forearm with his egocentric verbal assault following Karhula’s attack on Ukonselkä and myself. Holmström is obviously over-stepping his authority and misusing his power, and I am sure that he has something up his sleeve that nobody can anticipate.
Nonetheless, props to Heimo Ukonselkä for a war well fought, and Robert … I’ll see you at Eurosport next on May 14, and then you will have some explaining to do!

Clash of the Titans at Jatkosota 2012
Posted: March 29, 2012 in Professional WrestlingTags: Bernard Vandamme, FCF Wrestling, Genichiro Tenryu, Heimo the Wildman, Heimo Ukonselkä, Jatkosota, StarBuck, Steve Corino
It’s official: I will finally get my shot at FCF Champion “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä at Fight Club Finland’s Jatkosota 2012 event on Friday, April 20th in Helsinki.
To say that this match has been a long time coming would be arguably the understatement of the year. Ukonselkä has been a strong champion, thwarting all challenges to date, coming out on top like the king of the kill. However, on April 20th at the Old Student House, smack-dab in the heart of the nation’s capital of Helsinki, Heimo Ukonselkä is up against one of the top professional wrestlers on the continent of Europe today.
To quote the legendary Four Horsemen member Arn Anderson, “I hate to toot my own horn, but TOOT, TOOT!!”. Heimo Ukonselkä, along with everybody else knows, that StarBuck is not only a 4-time FCF Champion, I am also a 3-time European Champion, a 2-time Italian Champion, the first SMASH Champion in Japanese history, along with being a German tag team champion. I have faced the best of the best worldwide in 17 countries over 17 years in the game. From legends like Japan’s Genichiro Tenryu to multi-time European Champion Bernard Vandamme of Belgium to greats like former ECW World Champion Steve Corino, they have all fallen to Yours Truly inside of that squared circle. Heimo Ukonselkä, the “Wildman” and current FCF Champion, is next on that long, elusive list.
Heimo, start counting your remaining days as champion, because they are coming to an end on April 20th.
