Finnish wrestling summer!

We have a whole slew of shows across Finland this August slated with FCF Wrestling, and I am stoked about this!  The fact that FCF runs more events on an annual basis than 3/4 of our contemporaries out there in Europe puts us at the top of the food chain in the pro wrestling field on our continent.

On August 10 in Rovaniemi, Finland, FCF Wrestling presents Saturday Night Rock Fight at the 2013 installment of the Simerock Festival.  This is a special occasion, as the wrestling will be in the main slot of Saturday’s Simerock line-up, starting at 22:45 with five big matches on the menu.  Saturday Night Rock Fight will be headlined by Yours Truly tagging with “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä against Stark Adder and FCF champion King Kong Karhula.

Between August 16-18, FCF Wrestling will present Ragnarök 2013 at this year’s Häme Medeival Fair in Hämeenlinna, Finland.  This theme weekend, featuring reenactments and relics of the Medeival era in Nordic culture, is an annual attraction in the city of Hämeenlinna.  2013 marks the third year that FCF Wrestling has been a part of the festivities and program.  All throughout the three days, Friday to Sunday, wrestling matches will be held in a central tent on the fair grounds, three times a day.  The gimmick is that all the wrestlers must dress up in Medeival costumes and garb for their matches, adding to the flair and flavor of the whole kit and caboodle.  For more infos, go to the Medeival Fair website.

On August 24, FCF Wrestling comes to Kotka, Finland for an event entitled Rock & Wrestling Rampage at Route 66.  The catch here is, that the show is restricted to anyone under the age of 18, with alcohol and strippers on hand also.  This big event will feature five kickass wrestling matches, headlined by 185kg/188cm Cannonball Grizzly from the USA challenging me for my BWA (British Wrestling Alliance) Catchweight championship title.  This is going to be undoubtedly my toughest challenge to date, as Grizzly is a 25-year veteran of the ring wars, and the current reigning EWP (European Wrestling Promotion) heavyweight champion in Germany.  Grizzly has wrestled in 40 countries worldwide over his extensive career, and on August 24 he adds Finland to that list.  I just have to hope that I find a way by hook or by crook to retain my BWA championship at Rock & Wrestling Rampage, because I have never wrestled against anyone the size of Cannonball Grizzly before, and my active in-ring career dates all the way back to 1994!  In addition, my hard rock band Overnight Sensation will be playing live in Kotka at the same event, offering up originals and known cover songs by acclaimed artists such as The Cult, Van Halen, Ted Nugent, Motörhead and Thin Lizzy.

Pro wrestling schooling in Finland

This upcoming weekend on Saturday & Sunday, April 13-14 in Kellokoski, Finland (just on the northern rim of the city of Järvenpää), I will be holding pro wrestling tryouts for a potential class of 2013.  On both days, the tryouts will take place between 12-16:00.  If chosen for the actual schooling based on one’s tryout performance, the schooling period itself is set for 9 months, held on weekends (Sat.-Sun.).

Fight Club Finland (FCF Wrestling) has a 10-year history of producing some of the top male and female wrestlers in Europe today.  Our talent arguably has a higher export rate per capita than any other wrestling promotion in Europe over the past decade.  FCF has produced export names like Heimo “The Wildman” Ukonselkä (SMASH star in Japan, current PWF Champion in Germany), Valentine (SMASH star in Japan, BWA Catchweight champion, England), Jessica Love (SMASH and WNC star, Japan), Stark Adder (IWS star, Italy and NWF star, Norway), King Kong Karhula (current FCF Champion, PWF and EPW star in Germany), Ricky Vendetta (PWF star, Germany), Kristian Kurki (SMASH star, Japan), Kisu (Wrestling Stars, France), Aurora Flame (Nordic Women’s Champion), Kage Manguro (SMASH star, Japan), Vladimir Petrov (PWF star, Germany), El Excentrico (SWS star in Sweden, BWA star in England), Pasi Suominen (PWF star, Germany) and Sly Sebastian (BWA star, England).

As a former 3-time European Champion and former SMASH Japan, I personally hold the position of head coach in FCF Wrestling’s school, ensuring that every new recruit gets the very best wrestling education, from someone who has a proven track record in our business, as attested to through Wikipedia.

Barbed wire battleground

In just over a week, I will be fighting for the first time in my career in a barbed wire grudge match in Japan for Wrestling New Classic.  My trio with AKIRA and Syuri will face the vengeance-hungry team of TAJIRI, Mikey Whipwreck and Kana, and there it is guaranteed that there will be blood.  It all comes down on August 30th at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

From there, my team will do battle against TAJIRI’s trio on August 31st in Osaka and on September 1st in Toyohashi, and these encounters will also be barbed wire matches.  You can be sure that none of us will be the same after the dust settles next week across Japan!  My team is undaunted however, and we will show once again how we dominate, just as we did on our last tour of Japan.

First however, I will be gunning for my fifth FCF Championship title reign at DOMination 5 in Helsinki, Finland on August 24&25th, as over a two-day period a tournament will be held to crown a new titleholder.  It was 2010 last that I held the FCF crown, defeating TAJIRI in Tokyo on July 24 that year, before losing it back to TAJIRI on November 22, 2010 in Tokyo also.

In round one on Friday, August 24th, I will fight in the main event in a triple threat match against King Kong Karhula and “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä.  The winner of that match goes on the next night to advance to the semi-finals, and should they be victorious, the finals on the same night.

This past Friday night at FCF Wrestling’s Jatkosota 2012 event in Helsinki I challenged “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä for his FCF Championship title.  Had I procured the finishing pinfall, which by all accounts SHOULD have gone down following my spike piledriver to Ukonselkä, I would now be a five-time FCF Champion.  The fact that I am not the new champ right now boils down to FCF General Manager Robert Holmström, my Eurosport co-commentator, who really should have known better than messing with my match, and to Robert’s “surprise”, King Kong Karhula.

Heimo and I fought a rough-and-tumble, knock-down, drag-out bout, which really deserved a clear-cut winner.  Alas, Robert Holmström, with his Machiavellian imagination, spoiled the fun for everybody.  Right after my well-timed piledriver, the lights of the Old Student House venue went out and everyone was left in the dark.  Then, out of the corner of the room, from a side entrance, out comes the former Ibo Ten, who is now apparently calling himself King Kong Karhula, if the page that he opened on Facebook yesterday is any indication.  Karhula proceeded to destroy both Heimo and I, leaving us with bruised ribs after it was all said and done.

I have to hand it to Ukonselkä though.  He is often viewed as a very one-dimensional wrestler, being the burly brawler type.  My plan of attack was to actually wrestle the man down to the mat and control him there, but Heimo showed surprising counter-wrestling aptitude and managed to stem the tide.  It ended up being pretty much back and forth all the way through, with neither of us getting a clear upper hand throughout the match.

With the non-finish and sabotage of our title match, Robert Holmström upheld the FCF Championship, aided in part by the fact that he provoked Heimo into blasting him with a forearm with his egocentric verbal assault following Karhula’s attack on Ukonselkä and myself.  Holmström is obviously over-stepping his authority and misusing his power, and I am sure that he has something up his sleeve that nobody can anticipate.

Nonetheless, props to Heimo Ukonselkä for a war well fought, and Robert … I’ll see you at Eurosport next on May 14, and then you will have some explaining to do!

Clash of the Titans at Jatkosota 2012

It’s official:  I will finally get my shot at FCF Champion “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä at Fight Club Finland’s Jatkosota 2012 event on Friday, April 20th in Helsinki.

To say that this match has been a long time coming would be arguably the understatement of the year.  Ukonselkä has been a strong champion, thwarting all challenges to date, coming out on top like the king of the kill.  However, on April 20th at the Old Student House, smack-dab in the heart of the nation’s capital of Helsinki, Heimo Ukonselkä is up against one of the top professional wrestlers on the continent of Europe today.

Get your tickets early, this event WILL sell out.

To quote the legendary Four Horsemen member Arn Anderson, “I hate to toot my own horn, but TOOT, TOOT!!”.  Heimo Ukonselkä, along with everybody else knows, that StarBuck is not only a 4-time FCF Champion, I am also a 3-time European Champion, a 2-time Italian Champion, the first SMASH Champion in Japanese history, along with being a German tag team champion.  I have faced the best of the best worldwide in 17 countries over 17 years in the game.  From legends like Japan’s Genichiro Tenryu to multi-time European Champion Bernard Vandamme of Belgium to greats like former ECW World Champion Steve Corino, they have all fallen to Yours Truly inside of that squared circle.  Heimo Ukonselkä, the “Wildman” and current FCF Champion, is next on that long, elusive list.

Heimo, start counting your remaining days as champion, because they are coming to an end on April 20th.

StarBuck chain wrestling challenge at Ringside Fight Night

This coming Saturday evening, Dec. 17 in Espoo, Finland at the brand new Ringside Gym – run by my buddy, former European Middleweight Boxing Champion, Amin Asikainen, and his manager Pekka Mäki – I will be grappling with FCF sophomore sensation Kristian Kurki in a special chain wrestling challenge match.

The event starts at 18:00 and is entitled Ringside Fight Night, featuring four pro boxing matches in addition to myself against Kurki and FCF Wrestling’s human tank Ibo Ten against former 4-time FCF Champion, Valentine, in another chain wrestling challenge match.  The event is set to be streamed via the Internet, so keep your eyes peeled if you are not able to be with us in person at the show.

In the boxing portion of the card, it will be Finland’s Jarkko Putkonen (1-0) vs. Stanislavs Leonovs of Latvia (2-2-2), Finland’s Niko Jokinen (15-0-5) vs. Sergej Drob of Lithuania (1-1), Arne Ernstsen of Norway debuting vs. Maksims Semjonovs of Latvia (0-3) and Andreas Evensen of Norway (14-2, 6 KOs) vs. Sergio Prado of Spain (5-3-1, 1 KO).

Also on the same evening of Saturday, Dec. 17th, Kallio Rumble will take place in Helsinki starting at 19:00 with a Royal Rumble-style battle royale topping the card, where FCF Champion “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä must start the match and every two minutes a new man enters, until the man left standing at the end who has not been eliminated over the top rope then walks away with the FCF Championship title.

Ragnarök revisited

This past weekend in Hämeenlinna, Finland, I wrestled against FCF Champion “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä at what was dubbed Ragnarök as part of the Häme Medieval Fair.  Ragnarök wrestling paid homage to the Nordic heritage of our culture and past, as every match that the FCF talent took part in was tailored to recount classic battle themes of lore and legend.

Here are a few prime pics taken by photographer Marko Simonen from my bout with Ukonselkä on Saturday, August 20.  This match was a non-title showdown, which ended with Ukonselkä disqualified for blasting me with his championship belt as we brawled on the outside of the ring.

On Sunday, August 21, Ukonselkä put his FCF Championship on the line and retained his title after managing to pin me following his trademark pumphandle slam, which I kicked out of a fraction of a second too late.

Battle of the Barbarians

I will be wrestling this coming weekend at the Häme Medeival Fair as FCF Wrestling presents Ragnarok: a wrestling tribute to the Medeival past of our Nordic heritage on Saturday and Sunday 20-21 August in the city of Hämeenlinna on the old castle grounds.

With every match throughout the day featuring wrestlers dressed up as some kind of Medeival character, my match will fittingly be a Battle of the Barbarians vs. FCF Champion “Wildman” Heimo Ukonselkä in a pair of non-title matches as a very special attraction at the event.  This means that I will not be donning my regular wrestling garb, but will be dressed more akin to Conan the Barbarian as I battle Ukonselkä in Hämeenlinna this weekend.

Also at Ragnarok, a Battle of the Thieves sees Valentine and Johnny McMetal square off once again; in a Battle of the Valkyries Jessica Love and old rival Aurora meet once again; plus it’s Ibo Ten with his special court jester against Kristian Kurki with his special court jester in a Battle of the Clans.

Ragnarok will most definitely be an event that you will not want to miss if you are in Finland, so make plans to be there this weekend in Hämeenlinna!
